A Pathologic Study of Breast



Abstract
Patho-anatomic and -histologic studies were made on 142 surgically removed cases of female breast lesion, that were submitted to the Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, Seoul National University, during the period of five years, from. 1960 to 1964.
Among 142 cases, 98 cases (69%) were neoplastic, in which 57 malignant and 41 benign tumors were included, Infiltrating duct carcinoma and fibroadenoma were the mcst frequent histologic features among malignant and benign tumors, respectively.
The average age of carcinomas was 47.5 and fibroadenomas was 31.1 years.
Non-neoplastic lesions consisted of 11 cases of mammary dysplasia and 16 cases, of inflammation including two cases of tuberculosis.
The side distribution of the overall lesions was slightly higher in the¢¥ left, and the site frequency was highest in upper outer quadrant of the breast, irrespective of the histological types.
Paget¢¥s disease was found in one case, and no case. of primary sarcoma was encountered.
